NL | Gedurende vijf weken verwelkomt WEP de kunstenaar Alexandre Caretti (FR) als gast voor de residentie van dit jaar.
Het werk van Alexandre Caretti vertelt verhalen zonder ze uit te leggen. Hij put uit architectuur, materialiteit, tederheid, humor en spel om een confrontatie met zijn werk – en de verhalen die daarin schuilen – uit te lokken. In zijn onderzoek verkent hij systemen van politiek en intimiteit; recente projecten richtte hij zich op internationale coöperatieve verbanden, zoals het Europees Parlement (Straatsburg) of de Europese Centrale Bank (Frankfurt).
Tijdens zijn verblijf in Groningen onderzoekt hij – in formele terminologie geformuleerd– mechanismen zoals verdwijning, ontwijking, afleiding, kopieën, bedrog of het fenomeen van de dubbelganger. Deze mechanismen, afkomstig uit de wereld van de goochelkunst en illusionisme, vinden wellicht een bijzondere weerklank in een land dat nog steeds op de lijst staat van meest efficiënte belastingparadijzen ter wereld.

Alexandre Caretti’s work narrates without explaining, drawing on architecture, materiality, gentleness, humor, and play to provoke an encounter with his work and the stories that inhabit it. His research explores systems of politics and intimacy, recently focusing on systems of international cooperation such as the European Parliament (Strasbourg) or the European Central Bank (Frankfurt).
During his time in Groningen, he explores, as a formal vocabulary, mechanisms like disappearance, evasion, diversion, copies, trickery or doppelgänger. Those mechanisms, drawn from the field of magic and prestidigitation, could find an odd echo in a country that is still on the list of the most efficient tax haven in the world.
